The German news channel NDR recently broadcast a radio report about the results and implications of the Knesset elections calling Netanyahu's electoral campaign a 'triumph of fear' (i.e. the fear that his political opponent Isaac Herzog would make far too many concessions to the Palestinians) which has directed the mood in the country for his benefit and, as a result, drove many Israelis to vote for Likud in the end.
On the other hand, according to the report, his electoral campaign increased the voter turnout of Arab citizens considerably. The Joint Arab List certainly "owes" its electoral success to Avigdor Lieberman as well, who previously raised the votes threshold attempting to marginalize the Arab political parties. Instead, his maneuver caused them to join together, despite their disagreements. As a result the Joint List became the third-largest faction in the 20th Knesset. In the event of a coalition between Likud and the Zionist Camp, the Joint Arab List will automatically become the largest faction in the opposition.
