15/6/2015 Haifa. On June 16 2015 The Mossawa Center in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and in partnership with MKs Dr. Ahmad Tibi and Dr. Basel Ghattas and the National Committee of the Heads of Arab Localities, will host a conference in the Knesset on the economic needs of the Arab community in regard to the Israeli state budget. Speakers at this conference will include; MKs, heads of local councils as well as experts from civil society organizations.
Allocation of funds from the current state budget to the Arab community stands at about 6% of the development budget. This is in contrast to the fact that Arab citizens make up 20% of the population in Israel. This conference will address this discrepancy in funding as well as other socio economic issues in the Arab community. Mossawa is working with the newly formed Israeli government to work towards closing economic gaps between the Arab and Jewish community and to strengthen the economic capacities of the Arab minority.
