On Tuesday, April 19th Hakai published an article on the demolition of historical monuments and in the city of Haifa, that also included an extensive explanation of the demolitions of Arab landmarks and historic areas by political and planning institutions.
The article touches upon the process of development of some neighborhoods, and the evacuation of historic neighborhoods, demolition of its landmarks, and changing their names.
Mossawa Director, Jafar Farah, stated in the article that “There is no will in the planning authorities and the political authorities in Haifa City to renovate and to keep the landscape and architecture of the Arab neighborhoods” and that “there is still almost total separation in grade school and in other spheres as well” and that ”there is not a single museum or archive in Haifa devoted to the history of the Arab community.”
Josie Glausiusz, who regularly contributes to Hakai Magazine, conducted numerous interviews and field trips to the old and new quarters in Haifa while staying in Haifa for the preparation of the article.
Hakai magazine is known to be one of the world's most important scientific journals that specializes in coastal areas.
