The Mossawa Center, will host Mr. Martin Luther King III in a special symposium on Tuesday May 10^th 2016. The symposium will include a discussion on the state of human rights and peacebuilding in Israel. Mr. King will deliver a keynote speech on the struggle for human rights and peace. His speech will be followed by a panel discussion including; Mr. Jafar Farah, director of the Mossawa Center; Mr. Mohammad Barakeh, chairman of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab citizens of Israel; Dr. Johnny Mack, founder and president of Communities Without Boundaries International and Dr. Mary Totry, Professor at the University of Haifa. Many Arab community and political leaders quote and have been inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and for the first time his son will visit an Arab human rights organization to meet with Arab activists and elected officials. Prior to the symposium in Haifa Mr. King will visit the Arab town of Jisr az-Zarqa to learn about the socioeconomic situation there in comparison with the nearby city of Caesarea.

The Mossawa Center promotes the economic, social, political, and cultural rights of Arab citizens in Israel. The center is hosting Mr. King and his team in order to learn from the experiences of African Americans and their struggle for civil rights, and to discuss potential cooperation with the African American community.

Mossawa will present to Mr. King with information on discrimination against the Arab community in Israel, racism, police violence, discriminatory budget allocations, racial profiling, judicial discrimination and the ongoing occupation.
