The Mossawa Center denounces the repeated violation of Arab rights in light of increased home demolitions.
Residents of Arara village in the Haifa district were left homeless at 4am yesterday morning, as government forces destroyed the home of Abu Marzouk. This follows the demolition of apartments in Sur Baher the previous day, leaving dozens of Palestinian families homeless in Occupied East Jerusalem.
The tactic of home demolition is used by the Israeli government to prevent Arab citizens of Israel from living in dignity and security. As few housing permits are issued, socio-economic barriers have left the Arab community with no choice but to build illegally, leaving 50,000 families at risk of fines, arrest and home demolition. Just this week, Saiah al Toury, a 76-year old of the Bedouin village of Al-Araqib, was released from prison after being detained for re-building his home. The Israeli government has pushed for the development of new Jewish settlements in the area, but has demolished Al-Araqib 146 times, and left many other localities without water or electricity as a punishment for staying on their land.
The Mossawa Center condemns such blatant disregard for human rights and calls for swift action to be taken.
