Professor Shibley Telhami, an authority on global foreign affairs studies and American public opinion, states during roundtable: the majority of US public does not support Biden’s visit to Israel and Saudi Arabia.

 

In a roundtable discussion about US public opinion held at the Mossawa Center on the evening of July 12, Professor Telhami disclosed that numerous surveys suggest that the majority of US citizens oppose Biden's trip to the Middle East. Only approximately 25% of the populace is in favor of the visit.

 

American media outlets, including the New York Times and the Washington Post, have interviewed Professor Telhami regarding his anticipations of the President’s visit to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. He believes that Biden hopes to win over certain circles in his visit to Israel, particularly those who support Israel; however, the majority of the American public is not interested in the visit.

 

Professor Telhami emphasized the significance of uniting the Palestinian cause with the progressive movements that underpin American public opinion, such as the fight against prejudice towards minorities. He made mention of the significant shift in public opinion on the Palestinian conflict in recent years, particularly among young people associated with the American Democratic Party and progressive movements. Not to mention the ever-growing decline in support for the Palestinian cause within Arab and Islamic countries of the Middle East, which marginalizes it at the level of international foreign policy.
