on the 7th of December, The Twitter account of the Arab civil & human rights organization the Mossawa Center was suspended by Twitter. The center was shocked by Twitter's decision to suspend the account after it had responded to a campaign by far-right organizations against the Mossawa Center.
On November 21st 2022, members of the "Religious Zionism" movement, and other far-right activists and politicians held a conference in the Knesset, in which they attacked and incited against the human rights organizations and defined them "as an enemy and a threat to the state's democracy that needs to be dealt with". The Likud MK Amicahy Shikli even pointed out the name of the Mossawa Center explicitly.
Following the conference, reports were sent by right-wing activists and politicians against the Mossawa Center to Twitter, which lead to the suspension of the Mossawa center’s account on Twitter. This act is nothing but another attempt that should alarm the international community, as the Religious Zionist party and the extreme-right camp, are leading the assault to erode civil society institutions in Israel, its democratic institutions, and the civil liberties for marginalized communities. This is a serious threat to the rights of all citizens in Israel, not just its Palestinian citizens.
Director of the Mossawa Center, Jafar Farah stated: "Unfortunately, it is not the first time and this is not the first country in the world that turns human rights organizations into enemies. Organizations that work to protect innocent citizens against the brutality of the state apparatus. We will continue to work for the public and for the marginalized communities that suffer from discrimination and racism."
We will continue defending human rights in general and the rights of our society and our people. We call on the international community to rally around Palestinian-Arab civil and human rights organizations, and to take effective measures to end all such actions that suppress the voices of the Palestinians.
